Celebrate the Freedom to Read

It’s Banned Books Week, and as a librarian, I take an extra-special interest in this subject. So many wonderful books have been challenged and/or banned around the country in school libraries and public libraries. Even if you don’t pick up a banned book this week to read, think about how wonderful it is that most of the time, you can check out or buy whatever book you want, regardless of content.

The following books have been banned or challenged – can you believe it?

  • Brave New World
  • Nickel and Dimed
  • The Hunger Games
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Twilight

As someone on Twitter said: “Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but someone banned me, so read me maybe?”
