Khao Man Gai

When I lived in Thailand in 2000 and 2001, a favorite street food, besides mangos and sticky rice, was khao man gai. It’s chicken and rice with chili sauce. Most Thai restaurants in the U.S. don’t serve this dish. I’m assuming it’s because it’s so simple and restauranteurs assume it wouldn’t appeal to the average American palate. Let me assure you that it’s very tasty.

Since moving to Portland I’ve only been to the food cart pod on Alder & 10th once and had decent Thai food. Then I heard about Nong’s food cart and immediately had to try it. It surpassed my expectations!

What a great way to spend my lunch hour with some coworkers. And a great food memory realized 11 years later.
